Feature Interview: Nicky Bomba 'The Melbourne Ska Orchestra'
In honour of Melbourne Ska Orchestra—a thirty-odd piece ska and 2 tone band—and their self-titled album, AAA Backstage’s Navarone Farrell caught up with Nicky Bomba.
This is the news all you Sugar Mountain lovers have been waiting for, with Melbourne’s most progressive music and arts festival announcing its 2016 line-up.
Music lovers will be spoilt for choice, with artists such as Courtney Barnett, Hot Chip, Dirty Three and City Calm Down among the acts named.
Don’t despair art lovers, as you are also well catered for with the world premiere of NONOTAK and an Australian exclusive from Daniel Askill.
Returning to the Victorian College Of The Arts (VCA) and Melbourne Arts Precinct on Saturday, 23 January, Sugar Mountain will feature another staggering program of the best cutting-edge music and visual art from Australia and beyond.
Unfortunately capacity remains limited, though organisers have increased the scope of their unique site, situated conveniently within the heart of Melbourne city’s creative precinct. This includes the introduction of brand new spaces, such as the spectacular Melbourne Recital Centre. Along with an expanded food and drink offering, Sugar Mountain 2016 is revolutionising festival dining with an immersive restaurant experiment called Sensory.
Sugar Mountain’s visual art component, which is an integral part of the festival, is also expanding in 2016, with world premieres and exclusive collaborations. As for music, the Boiler Room stage is back, with all the action to be beamed around the globe online.
Sugar Mountain is a place for creativity to be exhibited, absorbed and celebrated, with curators Tig Huggins, Pete Keen and Brett Louis determined to create an environment that’s convivial and interactive, with performances and spaces that will stay with the audience long after the festival is over.
Sugar Mountain is one of the most unique festivals in Australia and features some of the most intriguing musicians and artists the world has to offer. Tickets are on sale at noon AEDST Monday 19 October via www.moshtix.com.au. Keep an eye on www.sugarmountainfestival.com for regular updates, organisers still have a few surprises up their sleeves!
