Alright Brisbane, it's that time of year. Get your floral headbands out, tie up your man buns fellas, polish your horned rimmed glasses, Laneway Festival is this Saturday and it's your time to shine. Along with you being as hipster as you can be, there are bulk musical gods and goddesses roaming the RNA Showgrounds and you need to find a way to fit all your favourites in as well as check out as many new acts as you can. So here's a list of we think are the acts that you will kick yourself for missing.
Courtney Barnett
After touring like no tomorrow in 2014, playing almost every massive festival you could think of including Glastonbury, Coachella and Lollapalooza this chick knows what she's doing. With an album recorded and ready to release, but no date attached to that release, she's been teasing us for a long time. Her quirky style and dry yet hilarious observational lyrics gives her fans honesty in songwriting that we haven't seen before. Her style is incredible, and even more incredible live. Plus with no headline tours of her own in sight, this might be your last chance to see her for quite sometime Brissy.
Mac DeMarco
With a cheeky grin and even cheekier lyrics, Mac DeMarco has become known as Canada’s most charming delinquent (in the nicest way possible of course). His third and fab record Salad Days and brings the weird and wonderful to rock and roll. Groovy tunes spark an indie surfer rock vibe to mind, he puts on his razzle and dazzle through his live gigs and always makes quite the spectacle of any gig. He'll have your hips jiving in next to no time.
Flight Facilities
After landing two tracks on the Hottest 100 at the start of this week, it's a testament to how much they smashed 2014 with the release of their first record. They've been bouncing around for a long time, riding off the numerous single releases (including the hauntingly gorgeous Clair de Lune and the addictive Crave You) these Sydney lads have made quite the name for themselves. Although, lately the reputation they've been building is one for their live shows, creating quite a spectacle left right and centre stage.
Benjamin Booker
Born from a journalist with knack for storytelling, Benjamin Booker has now turned in to one of the hottest singer songwriter acts of the year. Spending most of last year on the road with the likes of Courtney Barnett and Jack White he has also graced the stages of some of the globes biggest festivals (Lollapolooza and FYF Fest to name a few). The husky vocals and honest lyrics have won hearts all over the shop, and if you haven't fell in love with him yet, Laneway will be your chance.
Highasakite
We have a lot to thank Scandinavia for when it comes to music, and Highasakite is no exception to this. The five piece indie rock ensemble hailing all the way from Norway, rose to fame with the drop of their breakout single ‘Since Last Wednesday’ and they haven't looked back. A percussion and synth dream backs the gorgeous Ingrid Havik's vocals to create music that, sounds like it shouldn't work, but holy wow it so does. Their live shows captivate an audience, just hold on to your breath because they might just take it away.
