Woodford Folk Festival is one of Australia’s most iconic annual events; returning for its 28th year from– 27 December 2013 to 1 January 2014.
Is Woodford your New Year’s tradition? Australia’s largest gathering of artists and musicians, the Woodford Folk Festival, has just announced the theme for this year, setting the tone for one of the most mystical musical events on the Australian calendar.
This year the Woodford Folk Festival’s annual festival theme and poster is calling upon a carnival of masked creatures and characters, in the spirit of misrule and adventure, of mystery and mirth, of discovery and freedom. The duality of ourselves and of life itself is explored through the expressions of the Mask.
Again this year, festival organisers have worked closely with artist, Gavin Ryan to bring the theme to a full visual expression in the anticipated and collectable festival poster – released annually as one of the many Woodford traditions. The poster expresses a lively procession of masked and unmasked characters from a lit, mushrooming cityscape, exploding joyously through the gates of an adorned masked temple in a suspended world. Featured in the foreground we see an adventurous girl throwing her mask to the wind. Neon butterflies glide from their home in branches across a fantastical garden of delight. The atmosphere is celebratory. The characters are united in their discovery of self.
The Woodford Folk Festival is set to launch their upcoming festival programme on Saturday October 18, 2014. The 126 page programme will highlight a mix of international and Australian artists and musicians crossing genres of folk, blues, rock and pop, world, indigenous, vaudeville, circus, dance, visual arts workshops and a children’s festival.
