St Jerome's Laneway Festival Is Set To Be Australia's Key Festival

Laneway Festival

The era of St Jerome's Laneway Festival has arrived and it is set to take over the music festival scene.

The amazing acts gracing the lineup of Laneway 2014 is spectacular, with Grammy winner Lorde, Triple J Hottest 100 winner Vance Joy and Californian up-and-coming superstars Haim, to name a few.

While Big Day Out has been struggling and failing to get attendance numbers close to previous years, Laneway festival has managed sold out shows throughout Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Laneway first started 11 years ago in the small lanes of Melbourne and has slowly grown to encompass all of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and even debuted in Detroit, Michigan last year - making the festival an international success.

Although the festival is only boutique in theory with just 12,000 tickets available for the Sydney show this year, and less in other cities, it has attracted some of the biggest just-about-to-break artists, that will be coveted by the bigger festivals in the coming years.

An industry expert believes that the festivals emphasis on rising stars has given it surprising strength with todays youth.

''Ten years ago, all every international manager and every international agent wanted to do was to put their bands on the Big Day Out [tour]. Now, they target Laneway or they target Splendour [In The Grass, in Byron Bay] which is the big one,'' he said.

''If I was to be asked [what] is the most in-demand festival, from an international point of view, to put their bands on the bill I'd have to say Splendour and Laneway would be the two.''

The Australian leg of the St Jerome's Laneway Festival has still got two stops left, Fremantle and Adelaide. Then the festival will return to Detroit later in 2014.
