Perth Big Day Out Changes Venue to Arena Joondalup

Big Day Out

Less than three weeks out, Big Day Out has announced a last minute venue change for its Perth leg of the event.

Moving from its original home of the Claremont Showground, the February 2nd event will now be hosted at the Arena Joondalup. The decision was announced with a statement from the chairman of VenuesWest, Graham Partridge OAM, welcoming the festival to the new surroundings. Partridge stated, “After more than 150 000 festival visitors to the venue in the last three years, it is not surprising to see one of Australia’s best brands in Australian music make the move north.”

Whilst no specific statement has been issued detailing the justification for the move, promoter AJ Maddah’s Twitter gives hints as to reasons for the move, stating, “Between the state gov, local council and the assholes at RAS they are making it impossible to do shows…they keep pushing down sound limits, cutting down show times, making things prohibitively expensive, etc.’

Big Day Out organisers have expressed excitement in regards to the new venue, stating on their Facebook, ‘We are pleased to be moving to a new home which has the support and encouragement of the venue management as well as the progressive and forward thinking City of Joondalup.

The Perth leg of Big Day Out will take place on February 2, 2014 at Arena Joondalup, and boasts a lineup of Snoop Dogg, Pearl jam, Major Lazer and Arcade Fire, among many more.
